The first apartment building in South Baltimore's three-block Stadium Square development celebrated its grand opening Wednesday.
The 299-unit luxury apartment building developed by Houston-based Hanover Co. opened to tenants in September. The property, at 101 W. Cross St., is a milestone in Towson developer Caves Valley Partners' Stadium Square, which is expected to include a mix of office, retail and apartments spanning three blocks near Cross Street Market.
"The more people we have living and working over here, the more it seems like a new district," said Arsh Mirmiran, a partner at Caves Valley Partners. "The more projects that pop up that are part of Stadium Square, the closer we get to our ultimate goal of creating an all-inclusive live-work-play environment."
Stadium Square is expected to include four office buildings, the first of which opened last year. Spaces, a creative co-working space provider, was announced Tuesday as a new tenant for that building, located at 145 W. Ostend St.
Hanover Cross Street is the first of two apartment buildings planned for Stadium Square.
Construction on the second building could begin in 2018, Mirmiran said.
The midrise building features studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments, with rents starting at just over $1,600. It is 20 percent occupied since leasing began three months ago.
Amenities include a pool, outdoor kitchen and lounge areas, a dog wash, fitness center and entertainment rooms.
The building will also have 12,000 square feet of street-facing retail space, which Mirmiran expects to fill with restaurants.
