The legislature needs to put on their big boy pants and replenish the transportation trust fund to the funding levels before Gov.
The Mass Transit Administration must determine how much it actually costs to operate the various transit systems and adjust fares accordingly. It is unfair for taxpayers to constantly fund the reduced rates the MTA riders enjoy while the roads and bridges constantly decline. Governor O'Malley would not dare do this on his own because these riders are his voting base.
Finally, the state needs to stop allowing state employees to ride the transit system for free. They get a paycheck from the state every two weeks so let them pay for their transportation to and from work.
Wasn't Mr. O'Malley's buddy, President
Bottom line is when gas prices went up, fares on MTA stayed the same. How exactly do they do that? My gas bill increased three-fold.
