An undercurrent of liberal thought runs through day-to-day life on every public college and university campus. There seem to be at least two reasons for this dreadful problem.
First, professors are trained to think through issues, and they are charged with teaching students to do so as well. Consequently, it is difficult to get professors and students to blindly follow the conservative line, as Messrs. Rove, Limbaugh, Hannity and others would like.
Second, professors are professors because they care as much or more about people — hence the desire to teach — than they do about money. Unfortunately, that sentiment can rub off on students.
This is indeed a tough nut to crack.
