I would like to send my thanks and appreciation to the Baltimore City sanitation workers. I've commented over the years to many friends in the county how efficient and helpful the trash collectors are in Northeast Baltimore.

Now, add two more difficulties: temperatures in the 90s and low 100s, and the fact our normal pick-up day is Wednesday which was the July 4th holiday. So, this pile of garbage was sitting in 100-degree heat for three extra days. On Saturday, July 7, the truck came around as that is the official make-up day. We honestly didn't expect that they would be able to take all of it. They did.
That day the heat was in excess of 100. The bags were incredibly heavy. Making it even worse, we had the disgusting revelation later that maggots had bred in the can. I cannot image a more difficult and unpleasant job.
Luckily, we were able to catch up to the truck and give our thanks. The poor guys were so hot and exhausted they were literally leaning against fences to try to catch their breath and deal with the heat. But they picked up all of the trash on the street.
Bravo! Above and beyond the call of duty. We are grateful for the fine job.
