John McCain This is a big role. Senator McCain, a war hero, was the Republican presidential nominee who chose Palin as his running mate in 2008. It was, at the time, considered an out-of-left field choice that was either denounced as cynical and calculated or inspired in the energy it could bring to a ticket that some thought looked a little old compared to that of Democratic nominee Barack Obama. The best reader suggestions were William. H. Macy and Bruce Dern. I like them both I the role. Christopher Rosen, a senior editor at the Hollywood website Movieline who also cast the film for his readers, suggested Kevin Tighe, who definitely has the look -- if not the acting chops of Macy or Dern. My choice would be Scott Glenn, who played McCain's father in the worshipful made-for-TV version of McCain's autobiography "Faith of My Fathers." But looking at the Glenn and Tighe side by side, I'll defer and go with the one-time star of "Emergency" and most recently John Locke's evil father on "Lost."
