Anne Arundel police have charged a 40-year-old man with reckless endangerment and unlawfully discharging a firearm during a five-hour barricade at his Pasadena home Sunday.
Barry Wayne Williams Jr. also faces disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges.
Officers were called to the 8000 block of Bussenius Road in the Lake Shore neighborhood shortly after 5 p.m. Witnesses, who reported an extremely distraught suicidal subject, told police firearms had been discharged in the garage and backyard of the home, less than 100 yards from other residences. The suspect also drove erratically around his yard and struck several items on his property with his vehicle, police said.
The police Conflict Negotiation Team and Special Operations Section were sent to the scene, as officers made neighbors aware of the situation and asked them to stay in their homes. Negotiators attempted for several hours to establish verbal and phone communication with the uncooperative subject, who taunted officers several times, saying that he wanted to be injured, police said. The subject exited the home once and tactical officers tried several options to end the situation, before the man retreated into the home. At 10:18 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody outside the home. He was transported to an area hospital, where he remains under treatment, police said.
