Nine adults and two children were displaced by the fire and given shelter, Swindle said, and as of Sunday afternoon, they were still unable to return home. Swindle said they were being assisted by the
Firefighters arrived at 21 Sumac Road at 10:22 p.m. Friday after neighbors reported the fire at the dwelling, a single-family home that has been divided up into multiple units, he said. It took 46 firefighters 34 minutes to get the fire under control, Swindle said.
As of Sunday, the investigation was continuing. Swindle said there no determination of the cause of the blaze, but the fire is believed to have been accidental and caused an estimated $10,000 in damage, he said. There were no working smoke detectors in the building, according to Swindle.
One person was killed in a mobile home fire in Maryland City Wednesday morning. The person's name has not been released.
