Anne Arundel police say woman drank herself to death

Anne Arundel County police said they found a woman who drank herself to death in a Glen Burnie home Tuesday after her husband reported it during a traffic stop.

An autopsy by the office of the chief medical examiner Tuesday showed that Bonnie Grace Anthony-Garde, 50, died from gastrointestinal bleeding due to excessive alcohol consumption, police said.

Her husband had been stopped about 11 p.m. Monday at West Ordnance Road and Roberts Court on suspicion of drunken driving, police said.

Stanley Garde told officers that his wife was dead in their nearby home in the 6600 block of Roberts Court and asked them to check on her. They found Anthony-Garde unresponsive, police said. County rescue workers pronounced her dead.

Reached by phone Tuesday, Arthur Garde of Pasadena said Anthony-Garde had been married to his brother for about 30 years. He said he had not seen them for many years because of a "falling out" and that the last time he saw his brother, he took him to a Salvation Army shelter. He said he is unlikely to visit him in the hospital.

Arthur Garde said he had warned them about the dangers of alcohol abuse.

"I told him a long time ago, that stuff is going to kill you," Arthur Garde said.

He said Anthony-Garde and Stanley Garde had two daughters and grandchildren.
