New plea expected for defendant in Catonsville bomb plot

A man accused of trying to detonate a phony car bomb outside a military recruiting center in suburban Baltimore is expected to enter a new plea next week.

Antonio Martinez

, 22, who was charged with attempted murder of federal officers and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, is scheduled for rearraignment Wednesday in federal court. Martinez originally pleaded not guilty.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney for Maryland noted that rearraignments tend to indicate plans for a new plea, but said she could not comment on this case specifically. Martinez's federal public defender did not respond to messages seeking comment.
