Emergency personnel responded to the scene near the school, located in the 8300 block of Kavanagh Road, about 8:30 a.m. and found the injured boy, who is 8 years old, according to Lt. Jay Ringgold, the spokesman.
The boy was transported to the pediatric trauma center at
Ringgold said he did not know the boy's condition as of Monday evening. The driver of the vehicle did stop at the scene and Baltimore County police are investigating the incident.
Charles Herndon, a school system spokesman, confirmed the boy is a second grader at the elementary school and said the accident occurred as he tried to cross the street in an unmarked area.
"It was not in the crosswalk," Herndon said.
Maureen Creitz, the school's acting principal, deferred comment to police and fire officials. She also sent a letter home to parents of other students at the school, Herndon said.
"A letter did go out this afternoon from the principal just basically letting everyone know that the event had occurred and to remind children of the importance of crossing the street safely and using the crosswalks where we have crossing guards available," Herndon said.
