A Baltimore man was killed early Sunday morning after the motorcycle he was driving collided with the rear of a car traveling south on Interstate 83 near Old Pimlico Road, according to Maryland State Police.

An investigation showed Marcell Donnell Smith, 32, had been traveling at a "high rate of speed" on his orange 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle about 1:30 a.m, when he drove into the back of a 2012 Mazda 6, police said.

The collision caused Smith to be ejected from the motorcycle, and he was found in grass beyond a highway guard rail, police said. Medical responders pronounced him dead on the scene.

The driver of the car was not injured, police said.

A small amount of marijuana was found on Smith, police said. His body was transported the chief medical examiner's office for an autopsy, during which a toxicology report will be conducted to determine whether drugs or alcohol factored in the crash, police said.
