The bridge was more than 30 years old and was "severely corroded and rusted," Weaver said. The new structure will replace a set of steps with a ramp to make it wheelchair-accessible, he said.
The work must be completed before the weather warms up in the spring because the bridge contains chilled water pipes that supply the air-conditioning system in the Light Street Pavilion, Weaver said. The work is expected to cost about $1 million, he said.
