Dennis H. McGinley Jr., electrical engineer

Dennis H. McGinley Jr., a retired electrical engineer and model railroad enthusiast, died Tuesday of

heart disease

McGinley Jr. was born and raised in


, Pa., where he graduated in 1957 from Allentown Central Catholic High School.

He served in the Air Force for four years until being discharged in 1961. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1970 in electrical engineering from Drexel University in


, while working for Roeback Co. in Trevos, Pa. He also earned a master's degree in business administration in the 1980s from what is now

Loyola University Maryland


Mr. McGinley moved to Cape St. Claire in 1972 when Roeback transferred him to


, where he worked on


contracts. He later joined Bendix Field Engineering in Columbia, Allied Signal and finally


Corp., from which he retired in 2001.

"He worked on NASA contracts and such projects as the space shuttle," said his wife of 46 years, the former Rita E. Mulcahy.

A model railroader, Mr. McGinley enjoyed collecting and operating American Flyer, HO-gauge and N-gauge trains.

"He added a room onto our house for his layout and trains," said Mrs. McGinley.

Mr. McGinley also liked working on his car, making home repairs, reading, playing cards and watching sports.

He was a past member of the Cape St. Claire Recreation Council and formerly ran with the



Mr. McGinley and his wife liked spending winters in Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Barranco & Sons Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway,

Severna Park


In addition to his wife, Mr. McGinley is survived by three sons, Dennis Hayden McGinley III of Arnold, Gary Michael McGinley of Denton and Andrew John McGinley of Roanoke, Va.; and eight grandchildren.
