He served in the Navy for two years in the early 1950s and earned a bachelor's degree from Bloomsburg State College in Bloomsburg, Pa., which he attended on a football scholarship.

Mr. Germana, who had been an Atlantic City lifeguard in his youth, retained his lifelong love of beaches and boating.
He enjoyed family gatherings, Italian food and watching classic Westerns, especially those featuring his favorite silent screen star, Tom Mix, family members said.
His wife of 49 years, the former Marlene "Margo Lane" Murr, died in 2000.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Loudon Park Funeral Home, 3620 Wilkens Ave.
