A man was shot by police in Hurlock,
Leon J. Spry, 35, of the 4300 block of Harmony Road in Preston,
Authorities on Sunday charged Spry with attempted second-degree murder, two counts of assault, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and failure to obey a lawful order. A District Court commissioner ordered him held on $300,000 bail at the
Two Hurlock police officers investigating reports of possible gunfire shortly before midnight found Spry slumped over inside an apartment building, police said. He ran from the officers to a pickup truck parked in the street.
Spry grabbed one officer's arm and accelerated, and both officers were dragged as Spry crashed into a patrol car, police said. The officers were able to get away from the truck, but Spry started driving toward one of them and both officers fired at him, police said. Spry sped away and, about two miles away on Route 307, he struck a pole, police said.
Neither officer was seriously injured, and both were placed on routine administrative leave. The state police are continuing to investigate the incident. Police said they were not able to find evidence that any shots were fired in the area.
