Tuesday traffic slowed by fatal accident on Security Blvd.

An accident that killed a pedestrian along Security Boulevard in Baltimore County early Tuesday has closed the roadway between Kernan Drive and Robert Myers Boulevard and caused major traffic delays, according to Baltimore County Police.

The man was struck by a vehicle in the westbound lanes of Security Boulevard while trying to cross the roadway shortly before 5:30 a.m., said Cpl. John Wachter, a police spokesman.


The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, Wachter said. The road remained closed as of 7 a.m. and Wachter said it was likely to remain closed "for a while."

Traffic heading south from Baltimore toward Washington was also slowed following an accident that temporarily closed lanes along southbound Interstate 295 near Interstate 195 in Hanover, according to the State Highway Administration.

The accident had been cleared as of 6:30 a.m. but traffic cameras showed continued congestion.

Two other accidents, including a crash with injury north of the city, occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The accident with injury, on Interstate 95 at Exit 77 (MD 24/Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway) southbound in Harford County closed the left shoulder.

DOT also reported an accident on Interstate 70 at Exit 53 (Interstate 270) in Frederick County but offered no additional information.

MTA reported minor delays on the MARC Train and Light Rail.
