Women's lacrosse: Thomas' four goals not enough as Loyola's offense falters late

 

With the game tied at 10 with 20:27 to play, the Loyola offense sputtered when it was needed most as Georgetown (8-2, 3-0 Big East) ended the game on a 4-1 run to pull out a 14-11 win in women's lacrosse Saturday.

Annie Thomas paced the Greyhounds (5-6, 2-1) with four goals. Sophia Thomas led Georgetown with four.

No. 4 Florida 19, No. 19 Johns Hopkins 9: Kitty Cullen scored five goals as the host Gators (14-1, 2-1 American Lacrosse Conference) beat the Blue Jays (7-5, 1-2).

No. 11 Stony Brook 15, UMBC 9: The visiting Seawolves (11-2, 3-0 America East) used a 9-3 first-half lead to handle the Retrievers (8-4 , 2-1). Janine Hillier led Stony Brook with four goals.

No. 12 Navy 15, Holy Cross 5: The Mids (13-1, 4-0) took a 12-3 lead in the first half and rolled past the host Crusaders (5-8, 2-2 Patriot League).

Notre Dame (Md.) 20, Cedar Crest 10: Alli Terry scored nine goals as the Gators (3-3, 1-2 Colonial States Athletic Conference) outscored the Falcons (0-9, 0-5) in the second half, 11-4.

Franklin & Marshall 21, McDaniel 13: Danielle Entrot (Centennial) scored six goals but the visiting Green Terror (6-5, 2-2 Centennial Conference) lost to the Diplomats (9-2, 4-0).

Lebanon Valley 18, Hood 1: The Blazers (3-6, 0-3 Commonwealth) had no answer for the visiting Dutchmen (7-2, 2-1). Caitlin Lawrence scored the lone goal for Hood.

Stevenson 19, Alvernia 5: The Crusaders (5-5-1, 2-1 Metro Atlantic Conference) were outshot 53-17 as the host Mustangs (9-1, 2-0) rolled.

Scranton 12, Goucher 6: Emily Goss scored six of her seven goals in the first half to push the host Royals (6-3, 1-1 Landmark Conference) past the Gophers (6-5, 0-1).

Washington College 22, Muhlenberg 6: The host Shorewomen (9-1, 2-1 Centennial) had a school-record 17 assists as they routed the Mules (5-5, 0-4).

Salisbury 21, St. Mary's 4: The Seagulls (11-0, 3-0 CAC) dominated the visiting Seahawks (5-8, 1-2), outshooting them 41-10.

Marymount 15, Frostburg State 11: Stephanie Flood had three goals and four assists as the Saints (6-4, 2-2 Capital Athletic Conference) bested the Bobcats (5-5, 1-2).

Boston College 10, No. 5 Duke 9: The host Eagles (6-6, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) held off a comeback attempt to earn the first victory in school history against the Blue Devils (9-3, 2-3).

No. 14 Princeton 14, Yale 9: Jaci Gassaway scored five goals as the visiting Tigers (7-3, 4-0 Ivy League) took down the Bulldogs (6-5, 0-4).

No. 18 Dartmouth 9, No. 16 Cornell 5: The host Big Green (8-3, 4-0 Ivy League) handed the Big Red (6-4, 2-3) their fourth straight loss on a four-goal performance by Hana Bowers.
