No. 10: Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake Inc.

With the slogan of "Not a charity, but a chance," Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake is dedicated to helping people with physical, mental or other social disabilities become self-sufficient through employment services and training. The nonprofit, founded in 1919, operates 27 retail stores and nine career development sites in Maryland; in 2011, it helped more than 20,000 people prepare for employment. Goodwill's 463 employees, who recently enjoyed a company picnic, fitness challenge and financial and personal wellness fair, say they feel their work has an impact. "I am helping people achieve their goals," said one, "and I feel that I am helping to add value to people's lives."
