L.A. Auto Show: Galpin Auto Sports reveals plans for ‘supercar’
Galpin Auto Sports President Beau Boeckmann revealed that his Van Nuys-based company is busy on a top-secret “supercar” project.
Along with the announcement, made Thursday at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the company issued renderings of what the car is set to look like. As you can see in the photo above, it looks pretty slick.
Boeckman said the prototype is what the Ford GT would have looked like if Ford had continued production of the legendary car that was built from 2005 to 2006.
The GTR-1 is designed in the spirit of Carroll Shelby, Boeckmann said. It’s set to have more than 1,000 horsepower and will be available with the choice of body made from aluminum or carbon fiber.
It will also feature upgraded drive-train and suspension modifications and a bespoke interior tailored to the customer’s specifications, the company said. Galpin promised additional pictures, details and specs will be available closer to the GTR-1’s debut in early 2013.
Galpin Motors has had an enduring relationship since Shelby and Galpin owner -- and Beau’s father -- Bert Boeckmann met in the early 1960s. At the time, Shelby was designing Cobras out of Venice Beach and Galpin became the first Shelby Cobra dealer in California.
Galpin has played an important role in customizing cars for years. The company’s work was documented on the MTV show “Pimp My Ride.”
