New video shows McLaren's P1 supercar tearing up the track

Shortly after bringing its all-new P1 supercar to Los Angeles, McLaren on Thursday released a video of the car in its natural habitat: the track.

Wearing camouflage bearing the outlines of famous track circuits around the world, a prototype version of the many-horsepower P1 is seen going through development testing.

Just how much horsepower remains to be seen. Estimates range from 800 to 1,000, with the exact figure being announced at the Geneva Motor Show in March. It’s then that we’ll also get specifics on the engine, though it’s likely that the car will use a twin-turbocharged V-8.

McLaren also remains mum on pricing, but expect to pay at least $1.2 million for the privilege of calling one your own. You’ll also have to act quick; the automaker will probably only make several hundred of these cars.

When the P1 comes to market at the end of 2013, it will set up a particularly epic battle for the world’s best new supercar. Ferrari is widely expected to unveil the successor to its Enzo supercar at Geneva. It too will have many hundreds of horsepower and its price tag will probably surpass the $1-million mark.
