Reports of Nissan Pathfinder transmission failure spark federal probe
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary investigation into 2013 Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti JX35 models for a possible issue with the transmission.
The probe, which affects about 110,000 vehicles, will look at consumer complaints of transmission failure, the federal agency said in a statement.
So far, five owners have reported a leak in the transmission cooling line, which has resulted in a loss of power from the transmission.

The seven-passenger Pathfinder and the JX35 (soon to be renamed the QX60) were all new for the 2013 model year. The two share a platform that pairs a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with a continuously variable transmission.
The NHTSA will now “assess the scope, frequency and safety-related consequences of the alleged defect,” the agency said. No accidents or injuries have been reported to the NHTSA or Nissan as a result of this issue.
No recall for either of the vehicles is planned at this point, said Nissan spokesman Steve Yaeger.
