Ford recalls 390,783 cars, SUVs for fuel leak; may raise fire risk

Ford Motor Co. is recalling 390,783 model year 2013 Explorer, Taurus, Flex, Fusion, Police Interceptor sedans and SUVs, and Lincoln MKS, MKT, and MKZ vehicles because of a fuel module that could crack and leak.

The leak could increase the risk of a fire, according to documents Ford filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In a letter to all U.S. Ford and Lincoln dealerships, Michael A. Berardi, director of service engineering operations for Ford’s customer service division, said customers may first learn about the problem through an odor of fuel.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel-delivery module free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin July 15. Owners may contact Ford Motor Co. customer relationship center at (866) 436-7332. Ford’s recall campaign number is 13S04.
