Ticket magnets: Which make of car gets the most citations?

Share

Congratulations, Subaru, your WRX is the No. 1 most ticketed automobile in the U.S.

A new study conducted by Insurance.com concluded that the turbocharged, all-wheel-drive sports car is at the top of the list of vehicles most likely to get a ticket for a traffic violation.

Runners-up included the Pontiac GTO, the Scion FR-S and the Toyota Supra, with the Subaru Tribeca not far behind.

Missing from the list of the top 20? The Chevy Corvette, Dodge Viper and anything manufactured by Porsche.

“Cars don’t get tickets, drivers do,” said Insurance.com’s managing editor, Des Toups. “It’s not about horsepower.”

Top hot cars may be missing from the list, Toups reasoned, because they cost more, and tend to be owned by older drivers, who are more conservative.

And less powerful cars (even a Prius made the list) may be on there because they tend to be operated by younger, less experienced drivers.

The study looked at 528 car models and the online submissions of 557,238 car owners looking for insurance between January 2013 and July 2014.

Ticketable offenses included speeding and other infractions, but also drunk driving, stretching back three years from the time of the submissions.

Here are the top 20 most ticketed cars, including the percentage of owners of those cars who reported having received citations:
