Former MCA Records President Jay Boberg plans to announce today that he is launching a Los Angeles-based firm, Liberation Entertainment, with a library of films; 2,500 hours of television; and music footage, such as performances by Louis Armstrong and Tom Petty.

The library had been owned by Liberty International. Boberg acquired it with financing from private equity firm Clarity Partners. Boberg separately struck a deal with Genius Products to handle DVD distribution.
