Dollar up vs. euro, pound, but falls against yen; gold rises in Europe

LONDON (AP) _ The U.S. dollar was mixed against other major currencies in European trading Thursday. Gold rose.

The euro traded at $1.5672, down from $1.5681 late Wednesday in New York. Later, in midday New York trading Thursday, the euro fetched $1.5642.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Wednesday, included 107.69 Japanese yen, down from 107.93; 1.0381 Swiss francs, down from 1.0390; and 1.0113 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0107.

The British pound was quoted at $1.9893, down from $1.9976.

In midday trading in New York, the dollar bought 107.55 yen and 1.0386 francs, while the pound was worth $1.9821.

Gold traded in London at $928.00 per troy ounce, up from $926.50 Wednesday.
