The European Union, Japan and six other countries said 10 November 2003 the United States must "terminate" tariffs on some steel imports following a WTO ruling and warned that failure to comply could result in retaliatory measures. The comments came after a WTO appeal body said tariffs by Washington of eight to 30 percent on selected types of steel imports flouted international rules and should be amended, rejecting an appeal by the United States.
