Bio

Kathy Kristof's experience in business journalism dates back to her first job after graduation from the University of Southern California in 1983.

Starting as a staff writer for the Los Angeles Business Journal, she moved to the Los Angeles Daily News in 1987 and joined The Times two years later as a staff writer. She has been a columnist and staff writer for the Business section since 1991.

Her honors include the 1998 California Alliance for Consumer Education Award for excellence in consumer education, the 1994 Investment Company Institute American University Award for excellence in personal finance writing and the 1992 John Hancock Award for Excellence in news reporting.

The Burbank-born writer is author of "Kathy Kristof's Complete Book of Dollars & Sense," published in 1997.

She is married and has two children.
