Amazon to open a new fulfillment center in San Bernardino

Amazon.com Inc. plans to open a second fulfillment center in San Bernardino, a move it said will create more than 1,000 full-time jobs.

The e-commerce giant said Wednesday that San Bernardino has “proven to be an important part of Amazon’s growth in California.” Amazon’s first California fulfillment center, where customers’ orders are packed and shipped, opened in San Bernardino in 2012.

Since then, the Seattle-based company has opened centers in three other Inland Empire cities -- Moreno Valley, Redlands and Rialto -- as well as in Tracy and Patterson in Northern California.

More than 12,000 full-time hourly workers are employed at those existing fulfillment centers, Amazon said.

Employees at the planned 1.1-million-square-foot San Bernardino center will pack and ship smaller customer items such as electronics, books and toys, Amazon said.
