Flying J Inc.’s Big West of California said it had cut 40 managers and nonunion employees at its Bakersfield oil refinery.

“There will be additional layoffs over the coming four weeks,” said Peter Hill, a company spokesman.

The latest job cuts come after 55 contract workers were fired in early January.

Last month, Big West said it was curtailing operations at the Bakersfield refinery after it failed to secure adequate crude supplies for the plant. The company may seek to sell the refinery or find a partner to share in running it.
