As gas prices zoomed past $4 a gallon for the first time ever, more than three-fourths of the mid-sized cars sold in the U.S. had four-cylinder rather than six-cylinder engines, according to J.D. Power & Associates. Thats the highest proportion ever for the largest individual vehicle segment, which includes such popular models as the Toyota Camry (pictured), the Honda Accord, the Ford Fusion and the Chevy Malibu. Five years ago, barely half of these cars were being sold with four-cylinder engines.
