Kobe Bryant lists Newport Coast home for sale
NBA superstar Kobe Bryant may be focused on bouncing back from his injury, but the Lakers shooting guard is up to more than running on a treadmill. He and his wife, Vanessa, have put one of their houses in Newport Coast up for sale at $8.599 million.
Built on a half-acre in 1997, the Mediterranean-influenced home is set behind gates at the end of a cul-de-sac. If the description “highly upgraded custom estate” fails to hint at this having been their primary residence of late, the listing clarifies: “All remodeling was done by the current owners.”
A “shark tank” in the paneled office/library is the most attention-grabbing feature. There is an 850-square-foot gym, a hair salon, a theater, four bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
The palm tree-studded grounds include a swimming pool and spa, lawn, a fire pit and an outdoor kitchen.
Bryant, 34, is recovering from a torn Achilles’ tendon. The five-time NBA champ started his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1996. He is the all-time leading scorer in the team’s history.
The property last sold for $1.7 million in 1997, public records show.
The Bryants also own a 14,000-square-foot mansion nearby.

‘Thirtysomethings’ sell in Santa Monica
“Thirtysomething” stars Ken Olin and Patricia Wettig have sold their Santa Monica home for $6.85 million.
The Colonial Revival-style house, built in 1913, has been updated and restored. Original details include plaster moldings, wainscoting, leaded windows and a built-in hutch in the dining room. There are four bedrooms, 3.75 bathrooms, three indoor fireplaces and a patio fireplace. The more than one-third-acre grounds feature a swimming pool, a guesthouse and mature trees.
Since his days on the late 1980s and early ‘90s series, Olin, 59, has been on such shows as “Brothers & Sisters” (2007-11), “L.A. Doctors” (1998-99) and “EZ Streets” (1996-97). He is also a television director and producer. The Emmy-winning Wettig, 61, was a regular on “Brothers & Sisters,” “Prison Break” (2005-07) and “Alias” (2002-04).

Peck estate for sale on Westside
The Veronique and Gregory Peck estate has come on the market on the Westside at $24.995 million.
Set on 1.3 acres, the 1930s French chateau sits at the end of a long driveway and features the original marble-walled foyer, vaulted ceilings, seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms and 9,182 square feet of living space. French doors throughout the house open to the manicured grounds, patio space and a swimming pool.
Gregory Peck, who died in 2003 at 87, won an acting Oscar for his starring role as Atticus Finch in “To Kill a Mockingbird” (1962). Among his other memorable films are “Roman Holiday” (1953), “The Guns of Navarone” (1961) and “MacArthur” (1977).
Veronique Peck bought the property the year he died for $14.135 million, public records show, and filled it with his memorabilia.

Actress changes her scene
Actress Tricia Helfer has sold her home in Hollywood Hills West for $2 million.
Built in 1959, the gated contemporary features wood beam ceilings, an office, five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a sauna and 3,641 square feet of living space. There is a swimming pool and canyon views.
Helfer, 39, stars on the animated sci-fi series “Tron: Uprising” and will star in the upcoming series “Killer Women.” She was on “The Firm” last year and “Battlestar Galactica” from 2004-09.
The property was purchased for $950,000 in 2002, public records show.

Former GM chair names his price
Former General Motors and Northrop Grumman Chairman Kent Kresa has his Beverly Hills estate listed for $35 million.
The Spanish Colonial Revival mansion, built in 1927, has been restored and sits on 1.75 landscaped acres. Wrought ironwork, leaded glass windows, Malibu tile and hand-hewn beamed ceilings are among the mansion’s details.
The 14,000 square feet of living space includes living and family rooms, a formal dining room, a library/screening room, eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. The grounds feature a swimming pool with spa, an expansive lawn, a cabana, pathways, a rose garden, a vegetable garden and citrus trees.
Actor James Coburn was among former owners of the property.

Sherman Oaks is on his radar
Channel 7 News weather anchor Garth Kemp has sold his home in a gated Moorpark community and bought another house in Sherman Oaks.
The Spanish Colonial home he sold went for $965,000. Kemp had purchased the five-bedroom, five-bathroom house in August 2011 for $899,000.
His new place is a 1962 remodeled ranch house with four bedrooms, three bathrooms and more than 2,300 square feet of space. The custom home was listed at $995,000 and sold for $1.025 million.
