LCD TV prices plunge 22% from pre-Black Friday levels

You weren’t imagining those killer deals on televisions over the Black Friday shopping weekend.

The research firm ISuppli said Monday that LCD television prices dropped 22% for the day-after-Thanksgiving sales. But that wasn’t on just occasional deals -- that was the average discount.

Some sizes offered even steeper drops, especially in smaller-sized TVs. The 26-inch models were down almost 35% to an average price of $250, compared with $384 before Black Friday, according to ISuppli.

The most commonly advertised models for the weekend were in the 32-inch size. The average price for those was down about 25% to $369.

Bargains weren’t as sweet for shoppers looking for big-screen LCD TVs. The 46-inch sets sold for an average of $964, just 7% off the pre-Friday price.

Generally, the biggest price drops were on brand-name sets.

“Because these companies sell their sets at higher price points than the value brands, they are able to make steeper cuts during Black Friday,” ISuppli analyst Riddhi Patel said.

Some of the deals continued into Monday, but for the most part pricing is expected to start moving back up.

You still might be able to get a Black Friday-like price, however, if you’re patient.

“I think that for some of the smaller sizes, you might see the deals come back just before Christmas,” Patel said.

And if you’re willing to celebrate a little late, even the bigger sizes might head down again.

“For the large screens the Black Friday prices will start to become everyday prices on Christmas, and that goes until the Super Bowl,” Patel said.
