Regarding “Production decline worsens at Mexico’s biggest oil field” (Feb. 8):

The report of Mexico’s declining production of oil -- for which the U.S. is the chief buyer -- is yet another wake-up call for us.

It should be clear by now that our economy is severely threatened when so many of our (unfriendly) foreign suppliers not only keep the price high but also can easily cut our supply.

And there’s no way we can develop enough alternatives for many years. It’s way past time we promote more clean nuclear power.

I’ve anticipated the day they would appear in the same edition of The Times: reports on global warming and record profit for Exxon Mobil Corp. (“No stopping climate shift, U.N. study says” and “Exxon profit hits record $39.5 billion,” Feb. 2).

We finally found our weapons of mass destruction, and it’s the Bush administration that has been harboring the terrorists.

Regarding “Ford is expected to revive Taurus -- in name only” (Feb. 7):

Calling a dead duck a dead goose pretty much leaves a dead duck with a different name.
