J.C. Penney took a huge step backward for feminism in 2011, according to shoppers who railed against the retailer for selling a shirt featuring the sentence "I'm too pretty to do homework, so my brother has to do it for me." The item, which was only sold online, was designed for girls ages 7 to 17. Soon after a petition was launched on the website Change.org demanding that the shirt be taken down, J.C. Penney complied. A spokeswoman for the company said in a statement that J.C. Penney was "taking action to ensure that we continue to uphold the integrity of our merchandise."
