Prison terms reduced for Adelphia founder, son

NEW YORK —
A federal judge reduced the prison terms for the father and son who built Adelphia Communications Corp. into a cable television powerhouse before they were convicted of using it as a piggy bank to pay for luxuries in a fraud on investors.
The 15-year sentence of Adelphia founder John Rigas, 82, was reduced to 12 years and the 20-year sentence of his son, Timothy Rigas, was cut to 17.
U.S. District Judge Leonard B. Sand lowered the sentences after the U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals tossed out one of two bank fraud counts against the Rigases.
