Marc Duvoisin is named managing editor of The Times

Marc Duvoisin, a veteran editor who has overseen multiple award-winning projects at The Los Angeles Times, was named managing editor of the newspaper Thursday.

Duvoisin fills a position left vacant since December, when Davan Maharaj was promoted to editor.

“In his 10-plus years at Spring Street, Marc has had a guiding hand in some of the finest journalism we’ve published. He’s shown an ability to bring together diverse newsroom disciplines to make our most ambitious work shine,” Maharaj said.

Duvoisin, 56, has worked as a reporter, a foreign correspondent, a city editor and projects editor during his 35-year career. He has had a key role editing major projects that have won Pulitzer Prizes and other awards. One of those series, last year, found that tens of millions of dollars went to waste in renovating Los Angeles Community College District facilities.

Duvoisin grew up in New Jersey, graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in humanities and began his career at The (Bergen) Record in Hackensack, N.J.

At the Philadelphia Inquirer, he covered local governments and organized labor and served four years as the paper’s Middle East correspondent, based in Cairo.

He joined The Times in 2001 as an assistant managing editor. In 2007, he became a deputy managing editor, overseeing the paper’s daily Column One feature and its major investigative, explanatory and narrative projects.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to help lead one of the greatest news-gathering operations in the country,” Duvoisin said.
