Dow Jones May Trim Jobs in IT, Finance Units

Dow Jones & Co. Inc. is considering cutting jobs in its finance and information technology divisions as the media company seeks ways to reduce expenses in the face of higher newsprint costs.

Dow Jones told employees in a memo last week that it was considering whether to outsource some jobs, Gordon Crovitz, publisher of the company’s flagship newspaper, the Wall Street Journal, said Thursday.

He declined to provide a specific number, but said it would be less than 100 positions and that no newsroom positions would be cut.

The Republican newspaper in Springfield, Mass., reported that Dow Jones was considering job cuts at its customer service and printing facility in Chicopee, Mass.

A company representative had no immediate comment on the report.

Dow Jones added 12 cents to $37.23.
