“The Big Tease”<br> <br> Before he got his own late-night chat show on CBS following <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB004157" title="David Letterman" href="/topic/entertainment/television/david-letterman-PECLB004157.topic">David Letterman</a>, Scottish comic <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB001659" title="Craig Ferguson" href="/topic/entertainment/craig-ferguson-PECLB001659.topic">Craig Ferguson</a> starred in, co-wrote and produced this uneven but generally funny 1999 mockumentary poking fun at the beauty industry. As the tag line says: “He Saw. He Combed. He Conquered.” Ferguson plays Crawford Mackenzie, a Scottish hairdresser who is invited to the World Hairdresser International Federation contest in Los Angeles with a documentary crew in tow. But when he gets to La-La Land, he discovers that he was invited to be a member of the audience, not the competition. Armed only with his scissors, blow dryer, comb and brush — Crawford manages to get himself into the competition. In Japan, the film was known as “Scissors Cup.”
