Celebrity home price chops: Ex-Dodger Rafael Furcal’s timing

Share

As much as real estate is about location, location, location, selling it is about timing and pricing.

Former Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal has been trying to sell his home on a golf course in La Canada Flintridge since late 2010. Listed then for $4,449,000, the house reappeared on the Multiple Listing Service priced at $3.8 million just as news of Magic Johnson and company’s purchase of the Dodgers broke. Listing agent Susan Mohr of Sotheby’s International Realty said she had been working to get the listing ready for about a month. As for the precise timing: “Not a coincidence,” she said with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

Among other celebrity price chops:

  • Film and television producer Brian Grazer reduced the price on his Malibu Colony beach house in February from $19.5 million to $17.5 million. The strategy may have worked. The property, represented by Stephen Shapiro at Westside Estate Agency, is listed in the MLS as looking for backup offers.
  • Sports agent Dwight Manley listed a house in the Hollywood Hills in 2010 at $4,995,000. It reappeared as a listing with Benjamin Bacal of Keller Williams at the end of the year priced at $3.395 million. A sale is now pending.
