Universal Studios Hollywood to add ‘Fast and Furious’ attraction

Universal Studios Hollywood is putting the pedal to the metal on a new attraction based on the popular “Fast and Furious” movie series.

The theme park announced Tuesday plans to add a high-definition, 3-D feature to the park’s long-running Studio Tour tram ride by the summer of 2015.

The addition is part of a larger $1.6-billion, 25-year expansion that will include a highly anticipated Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction in the next two years and Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, set to open Saturday.

The “Fast and Furious” attraction will roll guests on the tram ride into a newly constructed 50,000-square-foot structure that will house a 360-degree screen. The guests will then experience a show similar to the King Kong 360 3-D attraction, which uses a combination of hydraulic lifts and 3-D images to bring the experience to life.

The park did not provide an estimate for the new attraction’s cost.

“Our collaboration with Universal Pictures to bring this franchise to life through epic storytelling and technological breakthroughs continues to be a hallmark of Universal Studios Hollywood,” said Mark Woodbury, president of Universal Creative.
