Southwest Airlines to raise pet fare by $20 in January

The cost of traveling with your pet on Southwest Airlines is increasing by $20 starting in January.

The airline announced that the charge to bring your pet in a carrier onto a plane will be $95 each way starting Jan. 15, up from the current fare of $75.

The Southwest pet fee is still the lowest among the nation’s largest airlines.

The airline allows up to six pets in the cabin per flight, and only in carriers that fit under the seat in front of the pet’s owner.

Here are the one-way fees other airlines charge passengers to travel domestically with pets:

Delta Airlines: $125
United Airlines: $125
American Airlines: $125
US Airways: $125
Alaska Airlines: $100
JetBlue Airlines: $100
Virgin America: $100
Spirit Airlines: $100
