Hot Property: ‘Flipping the Block’ condos going up for auction in Glendale
Fifteen minutes of fame and a new condo? Four Glendale units used in “Flipping the Block” are up for auction May 17, and the action will be filmed as part of the show.
Teams of renovators transformed the identical units for the HGTV series, which is hosted by Josh Temple of “House Crashers” and airs in July. The bidding stars at $225,000. The team that makes the most profit wins the profit plus $50,000.
The condos in the two-story building, constructed in 1964, have two bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms and 960 square feet of living space. Each includes a patio with a gas barbecue, a one-car garage and a shared swimming pool with guest parking.
As to how high the bidding may go, public records show the entire building was purchased last year for $1.5 million. Plus there’s a seller’s reserve, which means bids must go above a certain dollar value or the individual unit won’t be sold.
An informational session detailing how to buy a home at auction will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the building site, 1119 Sonora Ave., Glendale.
The May 17 live auction, conducted by broker Rhett Winchell of Kennedy Wilson and auctioneer Dean Cullum, will start at 11 a.m. at the Hilton Hotel at 100 W. Glenoaks Blvd., Glendale. More information is at the auction website.
