Hot Property: Katharine Hepburn’s former estate back on the market

Katharine Hepburn’s onetime haven in Old Saybrook, Conn., appears to be on a rather torturous price path.

Just relisted at $14.8 million, the picturesque waterfront estate has been offered at as high as $30 million in the last several years. Price points along the way have included $18 million and $28 million. This time around, however, it’s just the parcel with the house on it that’s for sale. Two other parcels totalling two acres are not included.

At whatever price, a buyer could come away with 8,368 square feet of living space, including six bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms. The nearly 1.5-acre site has its own beach, a boat dock and a pond.

The stately Colonial, built in 1939, also comes with many gallons of white paint covering the extensive interior woodwork -- part of the extensive renovation work no doubt. Still, it’s hard to imagine the headstrong actress grousing about amid those gleaming surfaces.

Hepburn, who died in 2003 at 96, won Oscars for her leading roles in “On Golden Pond” (1981), “The Lion in Winter” (1968), “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” (1967) and “Morning Glory” (1933).

The current sellers bought the home a decade ago for $6 million.

Colette Harron of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty is the listing agent.
