Midcentury home of late composer Paul Buckmaster looks to orchestrate a sale
The Hollywood Hills home of Paul Buckmaster, the late Grammy Award-winning composer known for his collaborations with David Bowie, Elton John and the Rolling Stones, is for sale at $1.385 million.
The Midcentury home, designed and built in 1957 by Conrad Buff and Donald Hensman, sits on nearly half an acre of grounds next to Runyon Canyon Park. The one-story house, which retains its classic details, is entered through a cantilevered overhang and has 1,540 square feet of interior space.
Clean lines dominate the floor plan, which features built-ins in nearly every room including the living room, center-island kitchen and master suite. A dining area sits between two sets of sliding glass doors that open to a patio and a swimming pool with a spa.
Each of the home’s two bedrooms are lined with a wall of windows that bring in the views.
Carrie Berkman Lewis and Richard Stearns of Pacific Union International hold the listing.
Buckmaster, who passed away late last year, worked on a few projects with David Bowie. He supplied the orchestral arrangement on Bowie’s song, “Space Oddity,” and also handled the soundtrack of the 1976 sci-fi film, “The Man Who Fell to Earth,” which starred Bowie.
In 2002, he won the Grammy for best arrangement for the Train song “Drops of Jupiter.”
