Former all-star basketball player Paul Pierce, who is expected to return to the Los Angeles Clippers next season, has made an under-the-radar play in the Cheviot Hills area, buying a home for $2.23 million in a deal completed off-market.

Though property details are scant, tax records show the 1950s Dutch-inspired Traditional has three bedrooms and three bathrooms on a single story. In all, there are 10 rooms in about 3,000 square feet of living space.

A patio, lawns and mature trees fill grounds of about 8,500 square feet. A circular driveway and a two-car garage sit off the entrance of the home.

The property previously changed hands a decade ago for $1.725 million.

Pierce, 10 times an all-star, has ties to the Southland, having starred at Inglewood High before attending the University of Kansas.

The 38-year-old forward appeared in 68 games for the Clippers last year, his first with the team and 18th in the league. He previously won an NBA title with the Boston Celtics in 2008.

He maintains other property in Southern California.
