NBA veteran Tyson Chandler sells the Riverside home he bought his rookie year
NBA All-Star Tyson Chandler has sold a home in Riverside for $798,000.
Chandler, a two-time California Mr. Basketball at Dominguez High in Compton, closed sale on the two-story in 2001 — shortly after he was taken second overall in that year’s draft by the Los Angeles Clippers and promptly traded to the Chicago Bulls in a deal for Elton Brand. He paid $554,000 for the property, records show.
Set behind gates on about an acre of grounds, the Mediterranean-style home is prime for outdoor entertaining with a wide covered patio, a built-in barbecue and a fenced swimming pool and spa. Attached and detached garages provide parking for as many as 11 cars.
Nearly 4,000 square feet of interior space includes an open living/dining area, a galley-style kitchen, a media room/den, five bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. There are fireplaces in the family room and master suite.
Lawns and mature trees fill the fenced and gated setting. A large fountain features sits off the entrance to the home.
Thomas Harness of RE/MAX All-Stars Realty represented both sides of the transaction, according to the Multiple Listing Service.
Chandler, 33, averaged 7.2 points and 6.1 rebounds in 66 games for the Phoenix Suns last season, his first with the team. Previously he earned Defensive Player of the Year honors with the New York Knicks in 2012 and won an NBA title with the Dallas Mavericks the year prior.
Last year, he put his renovated and expanded home in Hidden Hills up for sale at $9.995 million. That property, on more than an acre of grounds, currently lists for $8.995 million.
