Hot Property: Albert Pujols puts his home field up for sale: $7.75 million
Albert Pujols is taking a swing at a home sale in Irvine.
The Angels slugger has listed his estate in Shady Canyon, a neighborhood popular among sports stars, for $7.75 million.
Set on half an acre on a cul-de-sac, the Spanish Colonial-style home was designed by Irvine-based architect John Henderson and completed in 2010.

Entered through a gated courtyard with a fountain, the home has a rotunda entry with a sweeping staircase, formal living and dining rooms, a center-island kitchen, five bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms in roughly 9,200 square feet of space.
Broad archways, hand-painted finishes and wrought-iron fixtures are among the details. Rustic wood beams top a great room with a fireplace.
A lower-level lounge area is outfitted with a game room and a wine cellar. Curtains slide away to reveal a theater room with a wet bar.
The master suite has a fireplace, a sitting area, a soaking tub and French doors that open to the grounds.
Outdoors, a large flagstone patio surrounds a curved swimming pool with a waterfall feature. A separate spa sits adjacent to the pool.
Views take in the surrounding valley and canyon area.

The house last sold in 2012 for $5.55 million, property records show.

Pujols, 36, has won three baseball most valuable player awards and made 10 all-star teams in 15 seasons with the Angels and St. Louis Cardinals. He is entering the fifth year of a 10-year, $240-million contract he signed with the Angels in 2012.
Contemporary is his new jam
Guitarist Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction fame has bought a house in the Larchmont neighborhood of Los Angeles for $2.9 million.
The two-story contemporary, developed by Primary Homes and completed last year by FMB Development, features 20-foot ceilings, a floating wood-and-steel staircase and a free-standing wine wall that divides the open-area floor plan.
A chef’s kitchen has pendant lighting, a floating range and two islands. Glass doors off the living, family and kitchen areas open to an inner courtyard with a stone fire pit.
Upstairs, there’s a master suite with a walk-in closet and a street-facing balcony. A total of four bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms and an office are within roughly 4,300 square feet.
A built-in barbecue and a swimming pool surrounded by a stone patio complete the setting.
The house came to market in September for about $3 million, records show.

In addition to Jane’s Addiction, Navarro, 48, has been a part of such groups as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Deconstruction. The tattooed rocker also hosts the reality competition TV series “Ink Master,” now entering its seventh season.
His owner’s box is up for sale
Lakers co-owner and executive Jim Buss has put his penthouse in downtown Los Angeles in play at $8.8 million.
Found within the Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Live, the southeast-corner unit features wide-plank wood floors, Swarovski chandeliers and a remodeled kitchen with custom Italian cabinetry and a center island. Floor-to-ceiling walls of windows center on views of the downtown skyline, Hollywood Hills and coastline.
Nearly 4,300 square feet of open-plan space includes a formal entry, living and dining rooms and an office/study. There are three bedrooms, three full bathrooms and one half bathroom.
The unit comes with a pair of parking spaces. A rooftop swimming pool, a fitness center and valet and concierge services are among building amenities.
Buss, 56, bought the penthouse three years ago for $4.05 million.

Buss is the son of the late businessman and Lakers majority owner Jerry Buss. He has been the team’s vice president of basketball operations since 2005.
Billionaire nets another home
Daryl Katz, the billionaire owner of the Edmonton Oilers hockey franchise, has bought the onetime Bel-Air home of Arthur Marx, the son of comedian and actor Groucho Marx. The seller was Harry Morton, the son of hotelier Peter Morton.
Tucked behind chrome gates on about one-third of an acre, the Midcentury residence sits near the Art Linkletter estate, which Katz purchased last year for $34.5 million in an off-market deal.
Entered through a broad glass door, the 1950s residence opens to a formal living room with a wall fireplace. A dining room, a kitchen with a wine refrigerator, a media area, three bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms are also within 3,040 square feet of interiors.
Walls of sliding glass doors bring in views extending from downtown L.A. to the Pacific.
A loggia, an outdoor living area and a swimming pool and spa make up the grounds. A motor court sits off the entrance to the home.
Marx, who died in 2011 at 89, sold the home six years ago for $1.865 million.
Josh Flagg of Rodeo Realty was the listing agent. Donovan Healey of John Aaroe Group represented the buyer.
Katz, 54, is a Canadian investor and businessman who bought the NHL franchise in 2009. Last year, he partnered with Hollywood producer Joel Silver to form the production company Silver Pictures Entertainment.
An architect’s early mark
In the Bird Streets area of Hollywood Hills West, an early work of Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry is coming to market for $6.395 million.
Set above the Sunset Strip, the modern retreat was built in the late 1930s and acquired by a group of investors that included Gehry in the 1970s for the purpose of being remodeled and sold.
As part of the project, Gehry created a bold three-sided addition that wrapped the existing stucco structure while preserving its original form. The resulting residence — with a geometric facade, repositioned kitchen and walls of glass — was completed in 1978 and would list for sale in April of that year for $379,000, according to Los Angeles Times archives.
The current owners recently completed another two-year renovation of the property, incorporating high-end materials that highlight the modern design, according to listing agent Jonah Wilson of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate.
Among details of note are vibrant marble and wood finishes, pendant lighting and common rooms with adjacent dining terraces. The master suite, occupying the entire upper level, has a fireplace, a free-standing soaking tub and walls of windows centered on city and ocean views.
A family room, a chef’s kitchen, a breakfast area, three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms lie within the 3,861 square feet of interiors.
Various patios, a swimming pool and formal landscaping make up the hedged and gated grounds.
