House buyer must have liked actor Ryan Phillippe’s ‘Setup’
Whether it was the two-story entry hall that doubled as a gym or the 60-foot swimming pool with underwater speakers, Ryan Phillippe’s tricked-out home in Hollywood Hills West enticed a buyer to shell out $6 million.
Still, that wasn’t enough to spare the actor from the pain of the housing bust. Public records show that Phillippe bought the property for $7.175 million in 2008, after his eight-year marriage to actress Reese Witherspoon ended.
Stressing the security and privacy of the “Zen-modern retreat,” the unusually colorful listing details note that the gated house can “stopperrazzi” and provide an escape from “the drone of urban existence.”
The five-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom house contains 7,600 square feet of living space. Features include a media room, separate guest or office space and a sauna. The more than half an acre of grounds include a pool-spa entertainment area and an outdoor kitchen.
Phillippe, 38, starred in “The Lincoln Lawyer” (2011), “Setup” (2011) and “The Bang Bang Club” (2010). This year he will star in the film “Straight A’s.” He had a recurring role last year in the series “Damages.”
The actor got his start in the early 1990s on the soap opera “One Life to Live.” Other acting credits include “Flags of Our Fathers” (2006) and “Cruel Intentions” (1999).

Actress Maria Bello listed her Craftsman home in Venice for sale at $1.85 million and within 10 days it was in escrow.
Built in 1915 and set behind gates in a walk-street area, the house is painted blue with red doors and windows and yellow accents. Features include a wood-burning fireplace, a front veranda, three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. There is a lawn, patio space and a single-car garage.
Bello, 45, has been on the TV series “Touched” (2012-13) and “Prime Suspect” (2011-12). Her film work includes “Payback” (1999), “Secret Window” (2004) and “World Trade Center” (2006). She will be in the summer comedy “Grown Ups 2.”

Closing door on Southern Colonial
Actress Katherine Heigl has sold her house in Los Feliz for $2.622 million.
The Southern Colonial-style two-story features French doors, high ceilings and verandas. There are two fireplaces, four bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms and nearly 3,700 square feet of living space. The grounds include mature landscaping, a swimming pool and a spa.
Heigl, 34, was a regular on “Grey’s Anatomy” (2005-10). Her film work includes this year’s “One for the Money,” “Life as We Know It” (2010) and “The Ugly Truth” (2009). She stars in the film “The Big Wedding,” due for release this year. The animal activist has a line of pet products with proceeds helping to support spay and neutering programs.
She paid $2.55 million for the property in 2007, according to public records, the same year she married singer-songwriter Josh Kelley.

For sale on the street where she lived
The estate of Micheline Muselli Lerner, a former wife of lyricist and playwright Alan Jay Lerner, is on the market in Hollywood Hills West at $8.9 million.
The French-style house, designed by noted architect John Elgin Woolf and built in 1939, sits behind gates and hedges on a 1.4-acre promontory with city and ocean views. Features include a center hall, four fireplaces, an office, maid’s quarters, five bedrooms, five bathrooms and 3,776 square feet of living space.
Muselli Lerner, who died last year, became an attorney at 20 in France and worked with the Resistance as a criminal defense lawyer during the German occupation. She and Lerner met after she came to New York in 1957 on business.
Three-time Academy Award winner Lerner is remembered for his work on such musicals as “My Fair Lady,” “Camelot” and “Brigadoon.” He died in 1986 at 67.

Stromberg, 47, won Oscars for art direction of “Avatar” (2009) and “Alice in Wonderland” (2010). He was production designer on “Oz the Great and Powerful,” now in release.

“Gossip Girl” actress Kelly Rutherford has sold a house in West Hollywood for $980,000.
The Spanish-style bungalow, built in 1926, features wood floors, a dining room skylight, an updated kitchen, two bedrooms and 1.75 bathrooms. The deck contains a bar and a built-in barbecue.
Rutherford, 44, starred on “Gossip Girl” from 2007 until the final episode in December. She was also in the series “E-Ring” (2005-06) and “Melrose Place” (1996-99).
The house had been leased at $4,700 a month. Public records show Rutherford bought the property in 2005 for $1.25 million.
