Christina Aguilera closes escrow on Westside mansion
Christina Aguilera recently closed escrow on a mansion in gated Mulholland Estates, buying the Westside home of Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores and his wife, Holly, for $10 million.
The Mediterranean, custom built in 1992, features a family room with exposed beams, a paneled library, two bars, five fireplaces, a screening room, six bedrooms, nine bathrooms and 11,107 square feet of living space. A saltwater swimming pool with spa, a bathhouse and a gazebo also sit on the more than three-quarters of an acre of grounds.
Aguilera, 32, is among the world’s bestselling recording artists with sales of more than 50 million records. The Grammy winner’s hits include “Ain’t No Other Man,” “Beautiful” and “What a Girl Wants.” She was a coach on the TV singing competition “The Voice.”
Gores and his Beverly Hills private equity firm, Platinum Equity, own Palace Sports & Entertainment, which includes the Pistons.
The Goreses paid $4.595 million for the property in 1999, public records show.
Christine Martin, Samira Gores and Tiffany Martin of Hilton & Hyland were the listing agents. Brooke Kaufman, also of Hilton & Hyland, represented Aguilera.
Role of tenant has been cast
Comedic actor and film star Sacha Baron Cohen and his wife, actress Isla Fisher, have leased out their Hollywood Hills West investment property for $10,000 a month.
The Midcentury-style home, built in 1959 and later renovated, came on the market in March for lease at $9,950 a month or for sale at $2.595 million. The couple own another house nearby that they bought several years ago for $14 million.
The single-story house for sale features canyon and mountain views, beamed ceilings, a river rock fireplace, a media room/den, four bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and 2,806 square feet of living space. The lot, less than a third of an acre, includes a swimming pool, a spa and an outdoor gym.
Baron Cohen, 41, is known for his portrayal of offbeat characters in “Da Ali G Show” (2000, 2003-04), “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” (2006), “Bruno” (2009) and “The Dictator” (2012). He will star in an upcoming film about rock star Freddie Mercury of Queen.
Jonah Wilson of Hilton & Hyland was the listing agent. Stephan Apelian of Coldwell Banker’s Beverly Hills South office represented the tenant.
Apatow, wife buy beach retreat
Producer Judd Apatow and his wife, Leslie Mann, have purchased a house in gated Malibu Colony. The asking price was $10.95 million.
Described as a contemporary cottage in the listing, the house dates to the 1930s. Features include a courtyard, a sun room, walls of glass, three fireplaces and a guesthouse. There are four bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms and 2,550 square feet of living space.
Apatow, 45, has been involved in numerous television shows and films including the series “Freaks and Geeks” (1999-2000) and the movies “Knocked Up” (2007) and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” (2005). Mann, 41, appeared in those two films as well as “17 Again” (2009).
The property last changed hands in 2010 for $5.26 million.

Dodgers pitchers score new digs
In a double-header of sorts, two Dodgers pitchers are settling into life in Los Angeles.
Zack Greinke has bought a gated home in Studio City for $4.575 million.
The Craftsman-style two-structure compound, built last year, features an art studio, bar, gym, library/study, media room, seven bedrooms, nine full bathrooms and two powder rooms. The more than 1 acre of grounds includes a nine-car motor court, swimming pool and a waterfall with a walking bridge.
Right-hander Greinke, 29, pitched a shutout against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his season opener for the Dodgers, but was later sidelined with a broken collarbone. The former American League Cy Young Award winner signed a six-year, $147-million contract with the ball club in December.
Rick Beck of Keller Williams in Beverly Hills was the listing agent, according to the Multiple Listing Service, and Bruce Dilbeck of Dilbeck Real Estate represented Greinke.
Meanwhile, Hyun-Jin Ryu, the Dodgers’ new starting pitcher from South Korea, purchased a unit at the Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Live.
The two-bedroom, three-bathroom condominium has 2,082 square feet of living space. Features include 10-foot-high ceilings, expansive windows and views of the Hollywood Hills, the ocean and the downtown skyline. The sales price was not disclosed, but similar units are listed at $1.8 million.
Building amenities include the tower’s 26th-floor pool terrace, concierge service, a lounge with a wine-tasting room and glass billiard table, a media room and a fitness center.
The 26-year-old signed a six-year, $36-million deal with the Dodgers in December, after seven seasons with the Hanwha Eagles of Korea Professional Baseball. The rookie made his Major League Baseball debut in a series against the San Francisco Giants.

A change of direction
Film director Joel Schumacher has put his longtime retreat in Carpinteria back on the market at $7.25 million.
Set on 5.5 acres, the compound includes a three-bedroom main house, a guesthouse and a two-bedroom caretaker’s house. Built in 2000, the structures have a rustic feel and feature reclaimed barn wood. The main house includes a Diego Rivera-inspired mural entry. There are 5.5 bathrooms and 6,500 square feet of living space.
Schumacher, 73, gained recognition for his work on “St. Elmo’s Fire” (1985), “Batman Forever” (1995) and “The Phantom of the Opera” (2004). He directed two recent episodes of the dramatic series “House of Cards.”
