Madonna closes the curtain on Beverly Hills mansion
The show’s over. Madonna has sold her mansion in Beverly Hills for $19.5 million.
The single MLS listing photo offered only an aerial view, and agents and their clients who toured the home were among the few who have had a look inside. Those expecting the gabled-roofed home to have a gothic air were disappointed. “Tastefully decorated” was the word in real estate circles.
During nearly a decade of ownership, the pop icon went on a spending spree, rebuilding and expanding the estate, which was completed in 2010. The property was first quietly marketed last year as a $28-million pocket listing and early this year appeared on the Multiple Listing Service priced at $22.5 million.
The gated 1.25-acre compound, accessed by a 500-foot tree-lined driveway, includes a nine-bedroom main house, two guesthouses, a resort-size swimming pool and a tennis court. There is a two-story dining room, a gym, a theater/screening room, an art studio, a bar and 17,000 square feet of living space.
The singer-songwriter, 55, is one of the best-selling female recording artists of all time. Among her hit songs are “Vogue,” “Borderline” and “Material Girl.”
She bought the property in 2003 for $12 million, according to Los Angeles Times archives.
Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency and Barry Peele of Sotheby’s International Realty were the listing agents. Ben Bacal, also of Sotheby’s International Realty, represented the buyer.
‘Office’ receptionist welcomes buyer
Jenna Fischer has one less house, selling in Studio City for $2.015 million.
The gated Moroccan-style house “The Office” star sold is entered through a courtyard with a fountain. Features include panoramic views, two fireplaces, a butler’s pantry, four bedrooms, four bathrooms, 3,490 square feet of living space and a three-car garage.
Fischer, 39, played receptionist Pam Halpert since the sitcom began in 2005. She will be in the upcoming films “You Are Here” and “Kiss Me.”
The actress bought the hillside property in 2009 for $1.83 million, public records show.
Lou Woolf of Rodeo Realty handled the sale.
Last year, Fischer bought the onetime home of Baseball Hall of Famer Casey Stengel in Glendale for $1.9 million.
Room to store energy domes
Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo and his wife, Anita Greenspan, must have decided it was time to go forward. Move ahead. They have bought a multi-use building containing apartments and a gallery in Chinatown for $798,000.
The 3,300-square-foot structure includes 300 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and twice that much in the ventilated basement for storing, say, the flower-pot-like hats (energy domes) favored by the new-wave band.
There also are two one-bedroom apartments with wood floors and granite countertops. Although the living space was recently remodeled, the pair no doubt have their own plans to “Whip It” into shape, to egregiously borrow the title of the Devo hit song.
Mothersbaugh, 63, is a founding member of the band, formed in the early 1970s. He is a composer for numerous television shows, including “House of Lies” (2012-14), “The Carrie Diaries” (2013) and “Regular Show” (2010-13). The singer-guitarist is also a painter.

‘Mindy’ actor on to next project?
Adam Pally and his wife, Daniella Liben, have put their home in the Fairfax area on the market for $1.699 million.
The Spanish-style house, built in 1927, features such period details as arches, Spanish tile and wall nooks. The 2,428 square feet of living space includes a fireplace, an office, dining and breakfast rooms, three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.
French doors open to an outdoor dining area and a swimming pool with a spa.
Pally, 31, joined the cast of “The Mindy Project” this year and was on “Happy Endings” from 2011 until its cancellation this summer.

‘Queer Eye’ co-creators list in Los Feliz
Michael Williams and David Collins, co-creators and executive producers of “Queer Eye,” listed their home in Los Feliz for sale at $1.95 million and in less than three weeks had a buyer on the hook.
The Mid-Century Modern home of about 2,800 square feet features walls of glass, vaulted ceilings and travertine floors. There is a family room, an office, an updated kitchen, three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The master bedroom suite overlooks the swimming pool and spa.
“Queer Eye,” originally titled “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” ran from 2003 to 2007, winning an Emmy in 2004 for outstanding reality program. Williams has since produced the series “Home Made Simple” and “The Outdoor Room.” Collins went on to become an executive producer of “Big Ideas for a Small Planet.”
The property last sold in 2005 for $1.776 million, public records show.
